Summer Sex Trends 2014 Six Trends That Changed The Dating And Sex Game This Year

This summer we took a look at what trends in 2014 were shaking up the world of dating and sex. While a couple of these aren't recommended for all seasons (we wouldn't suggest outdoor sex in February) others apply all-year-round.
More Nudity + Sex Outdoors
You might call 2014 the year of the nipple — I’m looking at you, Rihanna and Scout Willis — but there’s a little more to this year than just see-through dresses and pasties. Ladies on vacation are posing in front of oceans, buildings, trails and more with their back turned to the camera (so, no nips!), topless.

Sexpert Kat Van Kirk attributes the rise of the nude selfie to an uptick in outdoor sex: “It has really paved the way for the rest of the country to follow the celeb example. The idea of risk and taboo draws many people to exposing themselves,” she told me in an exclusive interview with AskMen. “Sex outdoors can be exhilarating and an easy way to turn up the heat on your sex life.”
Van Kirk only has one warning: Don’t get caught! “Choose location carefully. Some people prefer to do it while on vacation where no one knows them. The best thing a woman could do is to wear a skirt — easy access and it hides what’s happening underneath.”
With less hush-hush behind being naked, I predict adventurous, outdoor sex will be on the upswing this summer. Especially according to the LELO Global Sex Survey published earlier this year that finds a rise in couples who claim they’ve had sex outside — 35% in 2014, compared to 27% in 2012.
Advances in Condoms
Two new condoms are popping up in the market: a super-thin one and one just for the tip (yeah, really). Bill Gates is funding a $100,000 grant to AID researchers in developing the thinnest condom yet. The hope is it’ll encourage more dudes to wear protection, since they won’t be able to feel the often-uncomfortable condom.
As for the “I’ll-just-put-the-tip-in” rubber? Called the “Galactic Cap,” inventor Charles Powell says it will increase protection while facilitating orgasm. If you really want a condom that just covers from the coronal ridge — ahem, the tip — and up, donate to Powell’s campaign here.
Couples Vibrators
Since Charlotte made vibrators normal and not off-limits in Sex and the City, “The Rabbit” — one of the best-selling vibrators to date — has hopped its way into many women’s bedrooms. But what used to be a one-person act is now turning into sexy foreplay for couples. More and more couples vibrators are hitting the market and Kirk doesn’t see that changing anytime soon.
“There has really begun to be a greater acceptance of men using sex toys, and the trend in couple’s toys is directly related to this phenomenon,” Van Kirk told me. “Some of the specific trends I’m seeing with vibrator design include: wireless capabilities, toys that incorporate anal play for him and her, more ergonomic and environmentally friendly designs, and even vibrators you can insert during penetration.”

Whew.
While Kinsey also says that 18- to 29-year-olds have sex an average of 112 times a year and 30- to 39-year-olds only get up to 86 — it doesn’t matter how much sex you should be having, it’s how much you’d like to be having.
So you might be thinking about cutting back on the booze for your New Year’s resolution or to get that promotion you’ve been eyeing for months — but here’s another check-box to add to your wishlist for 2015: more, more, more sex!

How To Break A Dry Spell

If 2014 was a great year, minus the fact that you didn’t get laid as often as you’d like, try your best not to lower your standards and just to do the dirty, sex therapist Vanessa Marin warns. She says having bad sex can actually make the dry spell worse, and make your craving for it only intensify. The same goes for sleeping with an ex just for the orgasm — emotionally, it won’t get you out of the lonely feelings you’re experiencing. So how do you keep your hopes — and your member — high? “Decide to stay in ‘the game’ even when you aren’t getting laid. Make an effort to go out and meet new people,” sex therapist and author, Dr. Kat Van Kirk says. “The main thing is to not fall into desperation mode. It’s not good for your self-esteem and it certainly won’t attract the type of person that you would probably want to sleep with. The more confidence you have in yourself, the more likely you are to break the dry spell.”

What Should You Aim For?

The amount of sex that men need is very dependent on the individual, but the most important thing to do when you’re looking for more booty is to keep your equipment healthy. “If you aren’t having sex at least a few times per month, you should at least be masturbating on a regular basis,” Dr. Kirk says. “There is something to the old adage of ‘you don’t use it, you lose it.’” Another thing to stay away from is comparing yourselves to the guys — especially when you never know who is telling the truth or not. Your buddy with the hot girlfriend might actually be a wet fish in bed, and that crazy, awesome oral sex and intercourse he’s claiming they’re having — might not actually be the case. Marin says, “It's easy to compare ourselves to others, but what works for one person's sex life doesn't always work for another’s.”

Consider What You Want

One of the big reasons that men have a hard time wooing the ladies into the bedroom is because they send mixed signals. If you want to have more sex in 2015, take some time to do a little soul searching and figure out what you’re looking for: just sex? Love? A relationship? When a girl feels comfortable around you and safe, she’s more likely to want to have sex, but also, likely want to something more too. Experts suggest to really go after relationships, as opposed to one-night stands. Even if you’re not ready to settle down, being in a short-term relationship (that yes, could lead to something more serious) will create better sexual experiences than random hook-ups after a night out on the bar (we all know that whiskey dick is definitely a real thing!). While it’s probably more work to actually date than to hit on girls at your neighborhood pub, putting the extra effort will get you laid more — almost guaranteed.

Better Sex For Her

This piece from our friends at POPSUGAR comes from a woman's perspective, but let's be honest: 1) Sometimes we need a woman's perspective on things, and 2) We'll be damned if she doesn't absolutely nail this. So keep in mind this was written by women, for women! Consider this an opportunity to get some insight on what she's thinking.
Want to ramp up the volume between the sheets? Get the most out of sex by trying a few things that will improve the experience for both you and your partner. Here are some tips for an even sexier bedroom session, and when in doubt . . . just do it more!

1. Don't Fake It Till You Make It

Faking orgasms isn't all that uncommon. In fact, 60 percent of women have put on a show at one time or another without actually getting what they, ah, came for. Doing so can be both a symptom and a cause of intimacy issues and lack of communication in a relationship. Faking it doesn't help either party involved — the most obvious reason being that if your partner thinks you're good to go, then he or she will stop trying, which means you'll both miss out on your big finish.

2. Be Confident and Open With Each Other

Ask for what you want. Be honest with your partner about what works in between the sheets and what doesn't. Studies show that the more open and positive partners are about sex, the more likely they will be to reach that pinnacle of sexual pleasure. If something's not doing it for you, find what does and let them know.

3. Be Loud and Proud

Stop stifling those sexy moans! There is a direct correlation between vocal sex and good sex, so keeping your voice up might be the key to keeping, well, everything up. Expressing pleasure in what your partner is doing is a positive reinforcement for them, and it can help their self-esteem in the bedroom. Being noisier can also set a sexier and more exciting scene for both of you, so it's a win-win.

4. Make It Match Your Mood

Your moods can vary greatly throughout the day or week, so the sex you're having should reflect this, just like any other interaction you have would reflect it. If you're feeling extrafeisty, opt for a fancy new position. If you want more of an emotional connection, or at least something that involves eye contact, something like missionary might be your best bet. The more the vibe fits the way you feel, the better getting your groove on will go.

5. Bust Out Some Backup

Try to mix up the steamy session by throwing in something new. If accessories aren't your thing, buy some sexy lingerie or a new lubricant, and top it all off by trying a different position or place to do it.

6. Have It More

Practice makes perfect, right? Having more sex can lead to better sex because it boosts your self-confidence, brings you closer to your partner, and makes you overall healthier and happier. The happier you are to have sex, the better it will be!
